Using the natural winter cold of Northern Sweden we concentrate apple juice on the best Swedish apples and ferment the sweet must into an ice wine, an ice cider, with equal parts fresh apple acidity and warm autumnal apple sweetness.

Comments on Brännland Apple Ice 2022
Andreas Sundgren, founder, Brännland Iscider,
For the third year in a row we produce Brännland Apple Ice as a single variety Mutsu.
We’re starting to know this wine now when it appears in concentration. At which point the balance in the juice should be for the alcohol, acidity and residual sugar to meet at the same crossroads in the finished wine.
2022 is the vintage of the three with the lowest acidity but we’ve also managed to hit a slightly lower residual sugar. The wine might be perceived as lighter and at the same time slightly sweeter than the previous vintage.
As I’ve written before, this is a wine makers wine. Light and comfortable without losing complexity and exceptionally drinkable. A wine that t is a pleasure to guide into a bottle.

As always the wine is crystal clear. Golden almost amber. Slightly lighter in intensity as a result of the lower residual sugar. Aroma on the nose are green apples giving way to mature, yellow. There is something wild here that is hard to categorize. It is always with a mix of fear and excitement that I taste wines that defy definition. For me that indescribability is the hallmark of a wild ferment.
In the mouth the wine is wild, young, vinous, structured but still light as a feather. It leaves a huge aftertaste that compels you to find out (read: drink) more. A very balanced wine.
I have a great love for purely wild ferments. They give a wine a completely different expression than commercial yeast strains especially in this shape when the wine is a tad drier than our other wines. I would describe the balance between sugar and acidity as al dente something that enhances the experience even further. Without a doubt this wine challenges the best Spätläse and Auslese wines out there.
